How long have you been playing?: 5 years this September!
Describe your character: Drea is… a complicated person with the best intentions. She overcame a lot of obstacles in life, (ie.: watching her 3-year-old son and her husband being murdered by Nox worshipers, joining a group of mercenaries only to have them all die around her and fleeing before it was her turn, having Pinedale turn into a second home only to have it destroyed, and giving up basically all of her freedom for the sake of love and marriage to a Civen Consul) and still smiles when asked about her life and her past. She’s avidly trying to figure out what her part in this world is, and why she keeps encountering Nox worshipers who want her dead and who still have her family heirloom for whatever reason. She might not do things the most rational way, but she always means well and has a huge heart.
What was your favorite in game moment?: Ah… How to keep this short? My all-time favorite moment that has to do with my PC has to be when the ghost of the cultist who murdered her immediate family dragged Drea’s twin brother out to Maplewood and requested she come meet him alone. It was a terrifying thought, yet I did it, and I’m glad I did. It was the most intense, in-depth, and emotional roleplaying moment I have ever experienced in-game. Internal conflict plus her brother’s life on the line definitely made it a hell of an experience I will surely never forget. Props to the person who came up with that plot. Another favorite moment in-game was when I was GMing a few years ago and gathered two ghosts to play a “haunted house” scenario in which the male would kill the female in a horrible fashion repeatedly until the adventurers figured out the reason behind it all and solved the problem. It was priceless hearing of the horrified and impressed reactions of those who participated.
What is your favorite monster? Why?: I love Boggarts. Having encountered one for the very first time recently and interacting with it for quite a while, I really admire the fact they can’t lie and see all the loopholes in agreements. They’re very creepy if played correctly, and the one I interacted with gave me the freaking chills.
Why do you love Kingdoms of Novitas?: What’s not to love? I get to escape being a full-time working mother of twin toddlers, escape my never-ending and repetitive daily routine, and I get to play out stories that would’ve been otherwise written and told. And what’s the fun in that? Beating up your nerd family once a month is a gift from the Gods, old and new. And the bonds that come out of KoN are amazing. Even after taking my 18 month hiatus, it felt like I never left. That’s the power of nerdy and true friendship.
Who is your favorite PC?: My all-time favorite PC has to be Daitoro. I simply adore that… man? He’s so mysterious and secretive, yet he’s been opening up to Drea more and more and she’s seen a few different sides of him she’s never seen before, and they’ve been in the same group together for going on 5 years. My other favorite PC is Dren Ollevres, of course – my husband’s PC. Not biased at all. He’s very charming and a hell of an amazing fighter. Very thankful he’s taught Drea all she knows about fighting.
What did you think your character concept was? What is it now?: When my now-husband-then-boyfriend told me about KoN and how it worked, I had already had the character of Drea written from a story I wrote when I was 14. I kept the same concept – she’s out for revenge and she wants her stolen item back – but I did change a few minor things about her for her to make sense in this world. Now, she’s still all about revenge–even more–but now she’s got two beautiful children, a loving and understanding husband (he’s a saint for putting up with her), and more resolve to her own story. It’s all coming full-circle.
How many PCs have you had? What happened to them?: Drea is my one and only, and she lives and breathes. I pity those who cross her path with ill intent.
